Next weekend is 48HOURS 2014! It has really sneaked up on us. Squidwig Productions have a small team and are planning on keepin’ it casual this year.

Things have been busy and frankly quite tough. This being-an-adult-who-isn't-studying-any-more business is harder than it looks. The first couple of months of 2012 were about getting the first draft of my radio drama series down. It was the biggest thing I've ever attempted so I was pretty proud when I wrote the last line of the last episode, even though I still have truckloads of work to do. While I've been waiting for feedback on that, we've been trying to get the 'Sucker' short on it's feet (or tentacles).
The wonderful Mark Newnham has come on board to make us some badass tentacles. Mark's work can be viewed here: http://www.marknewnham.co.nz/mark-newnham-trading-as-meticulous-mayhem/ Some of the later pictures in that portfolio blew my mind. Check out picture 14! Yesterday the first pictures of the clay prototype of the tentacles landed in my inbox. They are pretty god damn awesome, but I've decided not to share any pictures or footage of the tentacles before the release of the film. I figure that since ya'll already know the pay off my movie involves tentacles, I'd better not give anything more away. Anyway, it looks like we're going to be shooting in June if all goes to plan. We have a lot of work to do in the mean time. Gotta say though, it's awesome to just start making something of my own again. It's been a long time coming. The scope of the Sucker project seems to be growing every day. It's pretty cool/terrifying/motivating/exhilarating. Lots of other cool stuff coming up too - Team Squidwig have joined forces with Team Cupcake Go! for 48 Hours 2012, but we'll still be producing two films, so things are gunna get cray-cray. I'll be into the next drafts of radio drama soon, plus it's funding round season! Hello Escalator, Fresh Shorts, Seed Development Fund... welcome back to my every waking moment. Oh! One more thing. At the end of last year I blogged about a New Years resolution to watch a movie every day from January 1st - April 1st. I changed my mind! I'm doing it the whole damn year. My watchlist grows about three films for every one that I watch and I've had a ball thus far. Favourites from the first few months include Miracle Mile, Rosemary's Baby, The Raid, The Fly, The Iron Giant, 12 Angry Men, Dogtooth, Ginger Snaps, The Burning, Children of Men... The list goes on. One hundred and thirty seven movies later, I think I've learned a lot more about what makes a good film already. I've been keeping track of my viewing on http://www.letterboxd.com which is now open to the public (but still invite only). Check it out, movie buffs. Hand-Out Collaborative has another Make My Movie entry up!
GIRL,DISEMBODIED by Alwyn Dale and Becca Barnes http://www.makemymovie.co.nz/entry/girl-disembodied/ Please vote, retweet, etc etc. This one is an extension of our suitably gory 48 Hour Film Festival entry this year. The feature version will have just as many heads exploding and lobotomies, only in a not shit way. Haha. There are at least three more Hand-Out Collaborative entries to go up still, we are trying to stagger them so our Facebook friends don't stab us due to constant requests to vote. Look out for them soon. |
